Aquafine watercolour brushes are made from carefully selected dark-tipped sable-like filaments. They offer both good colour holding and pointing and are durable in use – an ideal alternative to sable. High gloss finish handle and a new nickel plated ferrule.

A good quality brush.
I wondered if the Aquafine brushes in larger sizes would give the soft responsiveness Cotman lose at 10 round upwards, and they mostly do. They are extremely soft: unlike other fat rounds, they aren't stiff with thickness.
Obviously they hold tons of paint and you can really push them into the paper and flick and get texture and effects using gouache or thin acrylic. (I'm less sure what you'd get with pure watercolour.) I'm really glad I got them and am going to get the next 2 sizes up too, especially as they've been discontinued and will be hard to get hold of.
They're £22 for the size 26 in my local art shop (I generally do support them, I want there to be an art shop not just the web) so this price is irresistable. One caveat: the 18 only lost lots of hairs at first washing, it didn't stop for ages, which worried me as losing too many means the ferrule isn't holding them any more, but it stopped eventually, so don't be too worried if this happens but keep trying. I had thought sizes were smaller than Cotman, but I would say the 12 is the same. It's bigger than a Cotman 10. WMS also size the same.
