Fabric Pens

Fabric markers consist of a permanent dye, ink or paint that is designed to not wash out of fabrics or fade with washing. Perfect for lettering, marker pens come in a variety of different colours and nib widths enabling the artist to create specific intricate designs. A tip for creating variable line widths is not to press down on the tip of the marker but to angle the pen lower for width and upright for finer lines, brush markers are also available for a more artistic design. Fabric markers can be used for drawing on large areas, stencilling and stamping on fabrics.

Tips for working with Fabric Pens:

While you can colour in large areas with fabric markers, it is not recommended as this will drain your marker. It is worth buying a fabric paint if you intend to colour a large area. However, markers are excellent for lining the edges of these line areas, helping to give a crisp finish. Fabric pens can also be used for stamping, although you have to work very quickly as the colour may dry on your stamp. But if you get it right, it works very well. Fabric pens can also be used for stencilling in the conventional way - just be careful your stencil doesn’t slip whilst you are working.
